7 ideas for financially friendly nights out

@ashleywicka

If you’ve noticed a price hike for just about anything lately, you’re not alone. It’s no secret that inflation is on the rise, making pretty much everything super expensive. And, truth be told, it’s something that affects us all – it can even impact how often you hang out with friends. Let’s face it: from brunches to going out to the mall with the girls, going out with your friends can quickly get expensive. That’s why we’re here with seven stellar hangout ideas. The best part? You will hardly have to spend a penny for these sweet keepsakes. Your wallet will thank you *so* later.

1. Hike

@hailey.press

Hiking is healthy, Instagram worthy and super fun to do with friends. Seeing amazing new sights while having in-depth conversations with your best friends? Yes please ! And if you go to a free local park, it will also be super nice for your wallet.

2. Watch the sunset

@marymargaretboud

If you’re like us, you can never say no to a nice sunset! Set a date with your crew (when the weather forecast is good, of course) to sit in a park or someone’s backyard. After all, the art of nature is the better art.

3. Prepare your own picnic

@irisapatow

We’re here to tell you that yes, it *is* possible to have one of those picnics that are all over your Pinterest without paying for a fancy meal. You can pack a basket of foods and snacks that you already have at home and would eat anyway (think: PB & J, anyone?). Just pick a nice spot in a park or under your favorite tree, lay down an old sheet or blanket, and enjoy!

4. Go to the library

@annicanns

Reminder: You *don’t* have to pay $30 for a book just to keep up with trending titles on BookTok. With tons of books lined up on the shelves, bookcases are the perfect place to romanticize reading. There’s nothing like browsing lots of free books with friends. For an added challenge, ask your best friends to choose the perfect books for each other!

5. Games night

No, you don’t need to pay for a movie to have an exciting evening with your team. Those random (but super fun) games gathering dust on the shelf? It’s time to put them to good use. And don’t forget to tell your friends to bring their favorite games too! It will make for a night filled with nostalgia and fun.

6. Stargazing

Stargazing can create endless excitement. Set up a blanket (or lounge chairs) outside on a clear night and simply look up to enjoy the bright lights and deep convos. And if you feel extra? Try to memorize some of the stars and constellations in advance. You’ll be sure to impress your team (and, if you’re lucky, you might even see a planet like Jupiter or Saturn!). We love the Night Sky app for identifying all of the above.

7. Clothing exchange

Yes, we’re obsessed with savings, but even thrift store prices can add up after a while. There you go: a clothes swap! All you will have to do for this activity is search through some of your clothes to find a few items that you no longer wear. Instead of throwing them away, bring them to your next squad hangout (and make sure all your friends bring a few cute items too). Then swap the items with each other for an experience that feels like savings but is totally free.
