Bosnia and Herzegovina’s trip to a friendly tournament in question / News

Financial problems continue to pile up for the basketball federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As previously reported, the country’s federation has serious funding problems which jeopardize the participation of all Bosnian national teams in international tournaments. The governing body has now shared an update regarding the situation.

According to the official announcement, the federation has received enough funds to send the national youth teams to the European championships this summer. A special note of thanks is dedicated to the municipalities of Novi Grad Sarajevo and Travnik for the payments of 5000 Convertible Mark (~2500€) and 2000 (~1000€) Convertible Mark to the federation.

However, the financial problems are far from over, the message says. The men’s national team still needs significant funding to participate in friendlies, FIBA World Cup 2023 qualifiers and EuroBasket 2022.

The federation notes that the funds were pledged by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The money was to be transferred during the first week of August. The term having already passed, the consequences should follow.

The Bosnian national team is due to take part in a friendly tournament in Estonia this weekend, and the federation still does not have the money for the team to travel to the two matches against Belgium and Estonia on 13 and 14 August respectively.

As the deadlines for the payment of expenses are fast approaching, the prospect of Bosnia and Herzegovina not participating in either of the two major tournaments is getting closer every day, says the federation.

Despite the problems, the team’s two biggest stars have arrived – young Real Madrid star Dzanan Musa, who fired a winning shot to send the country through to the second round of World Cup qualifying, and the most Bosnia’s big star – the center of the Portland Trail Blazers. Jusuf Nurkic. Even naturalized player John Roberson isn’t backing down from the team.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is placed in Group B of the EuroBasket with France, Lithuania, Slovenia, Germany and Hungary. The team are due to face France and Montenegro in the World Cup qualifiers later in August.
