Chivas and Pumas will play a friendly football game in Fresno CA

Chivas de Guadalajara has finally scheduled a return to Fresno.

Mexico’s most popular soccer team will return on March 23 to take on Pumas UNAM in a friendly LigaMX match at Chukchansi Park, Latin Entertainment has announced.

The game will start at 7:30 p.m.

Chivas and Monarcas Morelia were due to play in 2019 at Fresno, but a scheduling conflict within the Mexican Football Federation forced a cancellation.

The last time Guadalajara-based Chivas played at Chukchansi Park, 11,977 fans saw them play against Monarcas Morelia in 2017.

Chivas has played in four previous friendlies at Fresno with over 10,000 goals each time.

2001: Chivas vs. Tecos, 11,000 (Ratcliffe Stadium)

2002: Chivas vs. Atlas, 10,000 (Bulldog Stadium)

2015 : Chivas versus Atlas, 16,821 (Chukchansi Park)

2016: Chivas v Club León, 15,122 (Chukchansi Park)

Chivas is the only soccer club in Mexico that does not allow foreign players on its roster. It has been the launching pad for many internationally successful Mexican players, including Omar Bravo, Javier “Chicharrito” Hernández, Carlos Salcido and Marco Fabián.

Chivas are one of the most successful teams in Mexico and hold the Mexican league record for the longest winning streak at the start of the season, with eight consecutive victories.

Chivas participated in the Copa Libertadores, reaching the semi-finals twice (2005 and 2006) and finishing second in 2010.

Tickets for the Chivas-Pumas friendly range from $41 to $110 and can be purchased on ticketsvip beginning at 10:00 a.m. PST on Friday.

The game is hosted by Latin Entertainment Inc., the promoter that brought Liga MX teams to Fresno, San Jose and Sacramento.
