Dessers eager to face Algeria and Tunisia ahead of friendlies

New Super Eagles guest Cyriel Dessers has said he looks forward to facing North African giants Algeria and Tunisia in the two scheduled friendlies, reports.

The Eagles face Algeria on Friday before facing Tunisia three days later with the two games to come in Austria.

Both matches were scheduled to prepare the Eagles ahead of the 2021 CAN playoffs against Sierra Leone.

And speaking ahead of the friendlies, Dessers, in a short video clip posted to the verified NFF Twitter account, said: “I’m really happy to be here, my first Super Eagles call-up, it’s a dream come true. I can’t wait to be on the pitch and play the games and also meet the fans.

Born in Belgium to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother, Dessers was elected in December 2019 to represent Nigeria at the international level.

On March 4, 2020, Dessers was called up by head coach Gernot Rohr as part of the team’s invited players for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone.

However, he was unable to make his Eagles debut as qualifying was postponed following the coronavirus outbreak.

During his time with Heracles Almelo he became the top scorer with 15 goals in the Dutch Eredivisie after dropping out of the campaign due to Covid-19.

And after just one season with Almelo, on June 30, 2020, he moved to KRC Genk for a four-year contract.
