Family activities at the Burden Museum & Gardens this fall

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – It’s almost that time of year when the leaves start to turn brown and the temperatures cool down. The Burden Museum and Gardens will be offering many fall activities for families this year.

LSU AgCenter Burden Museum and Gardens Fall Activities:

Fall Birdwatching

What: A two-hour guided tour to discover the bird species in the estate. Bird watchers may bring binoculars, cell phones, birding apps and/or field guides, sunscreen, insect repellent, outdoor shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and water. ‘water. Tickets are $10 per person.

When: Dates and times for birding are September 17, October 22, November 19 and December 17 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Story time in the garden

What: Storytelling and thematic activities for children aged 3 to 8 at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens.

When: Sept. 10, Oct. 1 and Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Harvest Days/Maize Maze

What: LSU AgCenter says activities include a corn maze, children’s farm, wagon ride with satsuma picking, pumpkin patch, hay mountain corn nursery, gargantuan games, sunflower fields, a spooky playground, a temporary tattoo parlour, a vintage tractor show and other fun activities. Activities! Harvest day activities will include open fire cooking, soap making and wagon rides. Food will be available for purchase.

When: Oct. 1 and 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Corn Maze on Saturdays

What: The corn maze will be open on Saturdays throughout the month of October.

When: Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

LSU AgCenter Botanical Gardens Night Maze and Bonfire

What: The event includes a bonfire, a mountain of hay, a “swim” in the corn manger, games and a live concert featuring local bands. Halloween costumes are suggested.

When: Saturday Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Hats, Haunts and Halloween

What: The LSU Museum of Rural Life will allow visitors to relive the sights, sounds and activities of an old-fashioned rural fair. The event is recommended for children aged 2-9.

When: Sunday, Oct. 30 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Rambler Wines and Roses 2022

What: Stroll through the gardens savoring gourmet hors d’oeuvres, desserts, fine wines and specialty cocktails. Enjoy live music from the Baton Rouge Civic Orchestra, a wine raffle and a fabulous surprise raffle.

When: Sunday, Nov. 13, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Exhibition and sale of poinsettias

What: Over 20 varieties of locally grown poinsettias will be on display and available for sale in the Botanical Garden’s greenhouse.

When: Saturday, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m.
