Breweries might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of family destinations in Georgia, but many of them are great places to bring the kids! Although the main draw of breweries is, of course, the beer, many also have great outdoor spaces. They are usually the site of various festivals, concerts and events, and often host food trucks and even have outdoor games like cornhole. A brewery in Georgia that fits this bill perfectly is Terrapin Beer Company in Athens. The beloved spot is tucked away in an industrial area of the original college town, and it’s a fun place to visit, whatever your age.
In these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list at a later date.
In 2016, a majority stake in the company was sold to Molson Coors, meaning it is no longer considered a craft brewery. Even though the brewery is expanding nationally, it still has a beloved connection to Athens and is heavily involved in the community.

Terrapin’s 45,000 square foot facility regularly hosts concerts. There is an indoor stage as well as an outdoor area for large shows.

There are recurring cornhole league and trivia nights, as well as car and coffee shows. Less common events, including an annual chili cookout in the fall. Several local animal rescue groups occasionally hold adoption events at the brewery.

Reservations are not required for a visit. Note that you must wear closed shoes for safety reasons. You can get more information about Terrapin’s website.
