Portugal will face Nigeria in a friendly match
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal in an international friendly in September.
This was revealed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary, Muhammad Sanusi.
However, there is no official statement from the NFF or the Portuguese Football Federation.
According to Sanusi, the game is likely to be held in September as the NFF wants to take advantage of FIFA’s window following the postponement of AFCON 2023 qualifiers to March next year.
Besides, Sanusi said that Eagles manager Jose Peseiro was involved in organizing the friendly match with Portugal.

Speaking on Brila FM, Sanusi said: “We are all aware that the qualifiers have been set for September, but due to the change in the date of the AFCON qualifiers which has been moved to March next year, the NFF s It is therefore made a point to always use the FIFA window to play quality friendlies with the aim of keeping the team in good shape.
“That’s why we use the contact and connection of our coach (Jose) Peseiro who is a Portuguese to organize a quality friendly match with the Portuguese national team.”
Nigeria and Portugal have never faced each other at senior level, but the two countries have met three times at the U-20 World Cup, with Portugal winning all three encounters (twice in 1989 and 2013).
Portugal will face Eagles rivals Ghana’s Black Stars in this year’s World Cup group stage in Qatar.
In 2016, Portugal won their first ever senior major title after beating France in the final of the European Championship.
