The USWNT produced a 4-0 victory behind two goals from Sophia Smith on Saturday in Kansas City. The Americans will host Game 2 of the series at Audi Field in Washington DC

Vlatko Andonovski’s side will look to extend their home shutout streak while preparing for their biggest friendly of the calendar year. The United States will travel abroad next month to face England.

Smith, Alex Morgan and the rest of the attack are aiming for their 10th performance with three or more goals in 2022. This result is likely as the USWNT controlled the opener with Nigeria.

USWNT seeks to maintain dominant race on home soil

The United States are expected to extend their home unbeaten streak to 71 games with another shutout and a multi-goal victory.

In 2022, the team produced seven multi-goal wins and six clean sheets on American soil. The only slip-ups were a scoreless draw with the Czech Republic to open the SheBelieves Cup and a 9-1 win over Uzbekistan on April 9.

In his fourth year in charge, Andonovski’s side begin a 380-minute shutout streak at home and an 830-minute shutout streak in all games on Tuesday.

Nigeria offered a slightly bigger lead than some of the USWNT’s other opponents on home soil. The Super Falcons produced eight shots in Saturday’s loss but failed to beat Alyssa Naeher.

Andonovski will use some rotation for Game 2 soon, but the quality shouldn’t drop on the pitch. The USWNT matched its output of nine goals in back-to-back home matches with Uzbekistan in April and shut out Colombia while scoring one goal less than the opener of that two-game tie in June.

The 45-year-old may be motivated to keep the same team on the pitch with the October 7 friendly against England in mind, but we should see a few new faces in the starting line-up as the players fight back for places before this game. and the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Final preparation for the friendly match against England

The USWNT’s biggest friendly of the calendar year is a month away at Wembley Stadium.

This match will feature the current champions from North America and Europe on one of the biggest stages women’s football has seen this season.

The USWNT could treat Tuesday’s game with the right balance between wanting to protect the field against a weaker opponent, but also sending a statement to the Lionesses that he is in top form ahead of his trip to London.

Morgan and Smith are in the best shape among USWNT stars heading into Tuesday. The former scored in the second half on Saturday and needs one more score to become the fifth player in USWNT history to score 120 goals.

Smith is pushing the USWNT scoreboard up this year. The 22-year-old has four multi-goal performances and most of her goals have come in quick succession. She scored two goals in the first half on Saturday.

Most of the USWNT players for the final friendlies will be on the plane to England, so Tuesday is more about fine-tuning the form of this match than vying for roster spots.

Prediction: USWNT 4, Nigeria 0
